Turquesa, Mexico

Price range: $19.00 through $92.00

Named after the turquoise gemstone cherished by ancient Mesoamerican cultures, this coffee reflects both the beauty and resilience of Chiapas. Grown by smallholder farmers in the highlands near San Cristóbal de las Casas and Yajalón, the region produces large, uniform beans with a smooth body and balanced flavor, an inviting, approachable morning cup.
Coffee here has long been cultivated by Indigenous smallholders, often descendants of the region’s original tribes. Each farm yields just 10–15 bags, cared for entirely by hand. Decades of political resistance shaped this landscape, ensuring land remained in the hands of families rather than large estates.
Through partnerships with exporters, these farmers receive vital support, from fairer pricing to community projects and infrastructure. After harvest, the coffees undergo meticulous quality control and preparation in Veracruz, meeting strict export standards. In the cup, expect a clean, round profile, comforting and steady, with the character of Chiapas at its core.
